UAE’s Stance on Port Sudan Authority Decision
The United Arab Emirates has affirmed that it does not recognize the decision made by the Port Sudan Authority. The UAE believes that the Port Sudan Authority does not represent the legitimate government of Sudan or its honorable people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) issued a statement clarifying that the declaration from the so-called Security and Defence Council will not affect the deep-rooted and enduring ties between the UAE and the Republic of Sudan, as well as their peoples.
Background Context
According to the MoFA, the recent decision by the Port Sudan Authority — one of the two warring parties in Sudan — to sever diplomatic ties with the UAE was a reaction following the International Court of Justice’s dismissal of the case submitted by the Port Sudan Authority.
Moreover, the Ministry condemned the statements made by the Port Sudan Authority, labeling them as a diversionary tactic aimed at undermining peace efforts and initiatives in Sudan.
Call for Civilian Leadership
The Ministry emphasized that the Sudanese people deserve a civilian-led government, free from military control. Such a government should prioritize the interests of the Sudanese population, rather than resorting to violence and neglecting those in need.
Support for the Sudanese Community
The MoFA reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with the Sudanese people, particularly the substantial Sudanese community residing in the UAE, as well as Sudanese visitors who will remain unaffected by recent decisions. The UAE has been a staunch supporter of Sudan for the past five decades and will continue to extend its support and solidarity to the brotherly Sudanese people.
