## Integrated Urban Project to Upgrade Umm Suqeim Street
In line with the directives of the leadership to **accelerate the development of road infrastructure** and expand traffic capacity across Dubai, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announces an integrated urban project to upgrade **Umm Suqeim Street**, from its intersection with Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road.
### Objectives of the Project
The project is designed to:
– Enhance **traffic flow** to support comprehensive development.
– Address demands of urban expansion and population growth.
– Improve overall **quality of life** for residents and visitors.
This initiative complements ongoing upgrades to Umm Suqeim Street from its intersection with Al Khail Road to Emirates Road, eventually enabling uninterrupted traffic flow from Jumeirah to Al Qudra Road, covering a total distance of **20 kilometers**.
### Key Features of the Project
– **Creative and aesthetic enhancements**: The project includes upgraded pedestrian walkways, a dedicated cycling track, and vibrant urban spaces to foster community interaction and create inclusive environments.
– A **direct link** between Mall of the Emirates Metro Station and nearby residential communities through targeted improvements for seamless access.
### Master Plan for Road Network Enhancement
The project is part of a larger master plan developed by RTA to upgrade the road network in the area, including enhancements to:
– Jumeirah Street
– Al Wasl Street
– Al Safa Street
**His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer**, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized the importance of this project, stating:
> “The upgrade of Umm Suqeim Street forms part of a master plan to develop the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra corridor, serving key residential and development zones with a combined population exceeding two million.”
### Improved Connectivity
– The project enhances connectivity across four strategic transport corridors in Dubai:
– **Sheikh Zayed Road**
– **Al Khail Road**
– **Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road**
– **Emirates Road**
– It will increase traffic capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to **16,000 vehicles per hour** in both directions, significantly improving travel times.
### Development of Key Intersections
The project includes upgrades to **six key intersections** along Umm Suqeim Street:
1. Jumeirah Street
2. Al Wasl Street
3. Sheikh Zayed Road
4. First Al Khail Street
5. Al Asayel Street
6. Al Khail Road
All upgrades will involve the construction of:
– **Four bridges** and **three tunnels** spanning 4,100 metres in total.
– A two-lane tunnel at the Jumeirah Street intersection to facilitate traffic flow.
– Additional bridges at Sheikh Zayed Road for improved efficiency.
### Current Construction Progress
RTA is advancing works on a **4.6-kilometre section** of Umm Suqeim Street, with over **70% completion** and an anticipated opening in the third quarter of this year. This phase includes the redevelopment of the Al Barsha South intersection.
### Upgrading Al Qudra Road Intersections
The ongoing enhancements for Al Qudra Road also encompass:
– A **600-metre bridge** with four lanes in both directions connecting Arabian Ranches with Dubai Studio City.
– A **700-metre bridge** at the intersection with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, featuring seven lanes.
The RTA aims to further increase lane capacity and enhance overall traffic flow in the region.
### Future Developments
In subsequent phases, RTA will develop new roads and increase the number of lanes on Emirates Road, bolstering connectivity with adjacent projects and improving accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
