dnata Announces Investment in New Ground Support Equipment
dnata, a leading global air and travel services provider, has announced plans to deploy 800 new ground support equipment (GSE) units across its global network in 2025. This rollout, valued at US$ 110 million, is part of the company’s broader investment strategy to enhance operational performance and reduce emissions.
Long-Term Contracts with Leading Manufacturers
The new equipment will be delivered under long-term global framework contracts signed with leading manufacturers in 2024. These agreements, worth US$ 210 million, ensure a steady supply of advanced, lower-emission equipment to support dnata’s growth and sustainability targets.
Global Expansion and Equipment Allocation
The 800 new units will be introduced across 10 countries, with the largest volumes allocated to the UAE, Brazil, Italy, USA, and Singapore. This reflects significant operational expansion in these markets.
Quotes from Leadership
Clive Sauvé-Hopkins, CEO of dnata Airport Operations, stated: “Our continued significant investment in our modern fleet reflects both the scale of our expansion and our ambition to lead the industry in operational excellence and sustainability. We are accelerating the adoption of zero- and low-emission technology wherever possible.” He added that dnata takes a long-term, data-driven approach to deliver strong performance while reducing its carbon footprint.
Global Fleet Strategy
dnata’s fleet strategy focuses on phasing out diesel engines and transitioning to electric, hybrid, or hydrogen-powered alternatives tailored to the infrastructure and operational conditions of each location. Notably, over 40% of dnata’s fleet is electric in key markets such as Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and UK.
Engagement with Biofuel Suppliers
In addition to transitioning to electric vehicles, dnata is actively engaging with biofuel suppliers to reduce emissions. The company has recently transitioned its entire non-electric fleet to biodiesel across its operations in Dubai, achieving significant carbon reductions while maintaining operational excellence at one of the world’s leading transport and logistics hubs.
Operational Efficiency Initiatives
Operational efficiency is another key focus for dnata. The company monitors fuel consumption across its GSE fleet using Vehicle Tracking Management systems, conducts logistics mapping exercises to minimize travel distances airside, and optimizes shifts and parking slots to avoid excessive fuel burn.
Showcasing Technology at the Airport Show
Many of dnata’s new, advanced equipment will be on display at the Airport Show, which will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 6-8 May.
