Tottenham's Cristian Romero Set for Inter Move as De Zerbi Supports Departure

Cristian Romero is poised to join Inter Milan for €40 million as Tottenham’s coach backs his desire to leave after five seasons.

Cristian Romero Set for Inter Milan Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly agreed to sell Cristian Romero to Inter Milan for €40 million (£34 million). After five seasons with Spurs, the Argentine international defender has expressed a desire to leave North London, seeking a fresh challenge in his career.

De Zerbi Supports Romero's Decision

Roberto De Zerbi, head coach of Tottenham, has publicly acknowledged Romero's aspirations and stated that he respects the player's wish to explore new opportunities. In a recent press conference, De Zerbi elaborated on how he had established a positive rapport with Romero during their time together.

"At the beginning of my time in April, I had many individual meetings. The players shared their intentions with me. I told them, ‘help me to stay up, and then I help you to leave’," De Zerbi explained.

He emphasized that while Romero has been a key figure for Spurs, he is committed to respecting the players' wishes. "Romero as a player is one of the best centre-backs in the world, but at the end I said I want to respect the will of the players," he added.

Spurs Reinforcing Defense

Prior to this development, Romero had attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but ultimately, Inter has emerged as the frontrunner for his signature. Tottenham is already making strides to bolster their defensive lineup, having secured deals for Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi.

Finalizing the Transfer

While the transfer fee has been confirmed between Tottenham and Inter, negotiations regarding personal terms between Romero and the Serie A side are still ongoing. Both parties aim to finalize details in the coming days, marking the end of Romero's tenure at Tottenham as the club progresses through its summer preparations.
