After a disappointing 3-0 loss to Brazil, Haiti's coach laments the early exit from the World Cup but remains hopeful for future competitions.
Disappointment for Haiti in World Cup Elimination
Haiti's participation in the 2026 World Cup ended in disappointment as the team lost 3-0 to Brazil, making them the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. Coach Sébastien Migné addressed the media following the defeat in Philadelphia, voicing his team's tremendous disappointment and acknowledging the quality of their opponents.
Haiti's World Cup Journey
Despite the loss, Migné praised his players for their determination to qualify for the World Cup, emphasizing that they deserved their place on this grand stage. Haiti's campaign had already begun with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Scotland, contributing to their early exit from the tournament. As they prepare to conclude their World Cup journey against Morocco, Migné remains focused on using this experience to develop the team further.
Coach Migné Reflects on Team Performance
In a post-match press conference, Migné remarked, "Tonight the disappointment is enormous, even considering we were facing Brazil. We must recognize the quality of our opponent and learn from these situations to come back stronger." He also highlighted that facing a team as formidable as Brazil demands perfection, stating, "To perform against such rivals, everything must go perfectly, and we cannot afford mistakes."
The match featured two goals from Matheus Cunha and another from Vinícius Jr., showcasing Brazil's dominance. Migné acknowledged this gap in skill but reiterated that his team has demonstrated their potential throughout the qualification process.
Looking Ahead to Future Competitions
Despite the early elimination, Migné expressed satisfaction in having met the mission outlined by the Haitian football federation to return the national team to a World Cup. "We cannot underestimate this achievement for Haiti. We stood on the world's biggest stage against one of the best teams in the world. I believe we were brave adversaries, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough," he commented.
Migné highlighted the youth of his squad, with many players still developing their skills on an international level. "I have a young group; at least half of the team is relatively inexperienced. I hope this competition will serve as a stepping stone for them to improve as a team in future qualifiers," he said, looking optimistically toward the next World Cup cycle.
