Test pilot Chris "Pooter" Caputo showcased the aircraft's capabilities as we enjoyed stunning views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains.

The flight experience was remarkably smooth and quiet, a stark contrast to traditional commercial flights. Beta's ambition is to replace small fuel-powered turboprops with electric aircraft like the CX300, thereby making air travel cleaner, quieter, and more cost-effective.

Setting the Stage for Commercialization

Anticipated Revenue Flights

The Alia CX300 is categorized as a cTOL (conventional Take-Off and Landing) aircraft and has already garnered orders from carriers such as Air New Zealand. Beta plans to commence revenue flights for cargo services in late 2027 under a pilot program from the Transportation Department. Full certification is a pivotal next step that poses significant challenges, including charging infrastructure and gaining public acceptance.

However, Beta is also developing the Alia 250, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) model, which aims to cater to urban commuting. According to Beta president and CEO Kyle Clark, this strategy allows for a clearer regulatory path as much of the certification process for cTOL will apply to eVTOL, greatly easing future efforts.

Moreover, earlier estimations pointed to up to $13 million in battery replacement costs over the aircraft’s operational lifetime, raising concerns among potential customers.

The Alia CX300 can carry five passengers and one pilot, with a spacious cabin that enhances comfort during flights.
