Meeting Between President Yoweri Museveni and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, received H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the beginning of Sheikh Abdullah’s working visit to Uganda. The meeting was attended by Jeje Odong, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Conveyed Greetings
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from:
- President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
- His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai
- His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court
Sheikh Abdullah expressed wishes for development and prosperity for the Republic of Uganda and its people.
In response, President Museveni extended his greetings to the UAE leaders, wishing for further progress and prosperity for the UAE.
Discussion of Bilateral Relations
The Ugandan President welcomed Sheikh Abdullah’s visit, and they discussed ways to enhance cooperation, particularly in the following sectors:
- Economic
- Commercial
- Investment
- Energy
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah expressed pride in visiting Uganda, highlighting the strength of the UAE’s relations with Uganda and the promising opportunities for growth that support both countries’ development agendas and sustainable economic goals.
He also emphasized the UAE’s commitment to advancing sustainable development partnerships with friendly African countries to foster mutual benefit and prosperity.
Memoranda of Understanding
Following the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and President Museveni witnessed the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two countries:
- **Investment Cooperation**: Signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Matia Kasaija, Ugandan Minister of Finance.
- **Diplomatic Academy Cooperation**: Signed between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan and Jeje Odong.
- **Energy Cooperation**: Between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan and Ruth Nankabirwa.
- **Visa Requirements Exemption**: Signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan and Major General Kahinda Otafiire, Ugandan Minister of Internal Affairs.
- **Rail Cooperation**: Between Etihad Rail and the Government of Uganda, signed by Shadi Malak and General Katumba Wamala.
- **Digital Transformation**: Signed between NITA-U and Emirati company Presight, covering cooperation in digital transformation and cybersecurity. Signed by Muhammad Shameen Hosenbocus and Dr. Hatwib Mugasa.
